Greetings adventurer, I am the Melee combat tutor. Is there anything I can do for you?1,195
There you go, use it well.424
Ah, but I can see you're already a master in the fine art of Defence. Perhaps you have come to me to purchase a Skillcape of Defence, and thus join the elite few who have mastered this exacting skill?297
You wish to join the elite defenders of this world? I'm afraid such things do not come cheaply - in fact they cost 99000 coins, to be precise!260
Is there anything else I can help you with?256
In recognition of your defensive abilities, when you have it equipped it will act as ring of life, saving you from combat if your hitpoints become low.248
Excellent! Wear that cape with pride my friend.210
Is there anything else you would like to know?109
Why sure I can! You'll need a sword and shield.94
Next, you'll need to wield your sword and shield. Click on them in your inventory; they will disappear from your inventory and move to your worn items.82
Well adventurer, the first thing you will need is a sword and a shield appropriate for your level.69
Of course. Skillcapes are a symbol of achievement. Only people who have mastered a skill and reached level 99 can get their hands on them and gain the benefits they carry.68
Well I am glad you asked. The accurate style will give you experience points in your Attack skill, you will also find you will deal damage more frequently as a result of being, well, more accurate.61
When you are wielding your training sword you will then be able to see the correct options in the combat interface.56
Well let me see now...There are stabbing type weapons such as daggers, then you have swords which are slashing, maces that have great crushing abilities, battle axes which are powerful.55
Make sure to equip your sword and shield. Click on them in your inventory, they will disappear from your inventory and move to your worn items. You can see your worn items in the worn items tab here.52
Check your combat side-panel to see this.50
When you are wielding your sword you will then be able to see the correct options in the combat interface.49
You will see this weapon offers four different attack styles. They are Stab, Lunge, Slash and Block. The options let you choose which skills you train as you fight.49
There are four different melee styles. Accurate, aggressive, defensive and controlled. Not all weapons will have all four styles though.47
Next we have the aggressive style. This style will give you experience points in your Strength skill. When using this style you will notice that your attacks will hit a little harder.47
With this weapon, Stab attacks will increase your Attack skill faster than others.46
The Cape of Defence will act as ring of life, saving you from combat if your hitpoints become low.44
Now for the defensive style, this style will give you experience points in your Defensive skill. When using this style you will notice that you get hit less often.42
It depends a lot on how you want to fight. Experiment and find out what is best for you. Never be scared to try out a new weapon; you never know, you might like it!41
Aggressive attacks such as Lunge and Slash will improve your Strength skill; you'll hit less often, but likely do more damage when you do.41
Lastly, the Defensive Block style of combat will help you take less damage, and expand your knowledge of Defence.40
If you were using the training sword for example, there are four different attack types. Stab, lunge, slash and block.39
Each type uses one of the attack styles. Stab uses accurate, lunge and slash use aggressive and block uses defensive.39
Finally, we have the controlled style. This style will give you the same amount of experience as the other styles would but shared across all three of the combat skills.38
from it!38
While I tried all of them for a while, I settled on this rather good sword.37
To find out which style an attack type uses, hover your mouse cursor over the style button.35
If you're just starting out you can use the training dummies in Varrock to get a little Attack experience. Personally I prefer splatting monsters; much more satisfying, especially when you get to make a profit34
Not at all; there are many other adventurers who would love the opportunity to purchase such a prestigious item! You can find me here if you change your mind.33
You might also find that different weapon types are more accurate against different monsters.33
Well let me see now...There are stabbing type weapons such as daggers, then you have swords which are slashing, maces that have great crushing abilities, battle axes which are powerful and spears which can be good21
You already have a training sword and shield. Save some for the other adventurers.18
for Defence and many forms of Attack.18

this rather good sword!15
You don't need any more help, then. How about you, %USERNAME%?14
There are also spears. Spears can be good for Defence and many forms of Attack.13
Ho there Zanik! You look like a strong fighter!13
Most certainly, and free of charge!11
If you need some more advice, you should talk to Adventurer Jon about Adventure paths. He may even have a handy starter kit you can use.9
You don't have enough space for me to give you a training sword, nor a shield.8
You could try venturing into the Wilderness I suppose... but that's only for warriors who are strong and fearless like me!8
You already have a training sword.8
Well adventurer, there are a few places you might be able to do this.7
You could try your luck at castle wars. Here, two teams fight each other to defend their respective flags. To win the game you will need to get the other team's flag and return it to your flag stand.7
If you are in a clan, you should gather some clan members and try out clan wars. There you can see which clan is better than the other by fighting each other in an arena.7
In the Wilderness you may attack other players that are within the level range specified on your screen. The further north you go, the larger this level range and the more people can attack you.7
You may attack other players there but bear in mind though that if you attack anyone who has not attacked you first, you will be 'skulled'.7
Remember if you kill someone with good equipment on, you can pick that equipment up!7
Both activities are safe minigame, which means if you die you will not loose any of your items. You can get to them by using the teleport option in your minigames tab.5
Only go into the wilderness with items you are willing to lose and pay attention to the wilderness level you are in. The higher the level you go, more player will be able to attack you.5
Minus the wilderness level from your combat level to find the lowest level that you can attack, then add the wilderness level to your combat level to find the highest level that you can attack.5
A skull and crossbones appears over your head, this remains for 20 minutes. If you die during this time you will lose everything, not keeping your three most expensive items as usual.5
There is also the wilderness. The wilderness is north of Varrock and you can fight other players there. But bare in mind if you die to another player in the wilderness you will lose your stuff.4
I have no use for that, sorry.3
You can find which player can attack you by checking your combat level.3
You already have a training shield.3
But this also means that if you kill another player you will be able to take their stuff too.2
I'm sorry, I can't sell you one here. Try talking to me later.2
You have a training shield in your bank.2
If you had any room in your pack I'd give you a training bow. That's a shame. Come back when you do.2
Aha! I see you already know how to wield your sword and shield. Well done!1
Now check your combat side-panel.1
You have a training sword in your bank.1
That was funny; you should be a comedian, not a warrior!1
Ahem... You could have fun duelling another player in the Arena near Al Kharid or assisting your team to capture the flag in Castle Wars. This will both help your combat skills and be fun!1
Castle Wars is located west of Yanille and the Duel Arena is north-east of Al Kharid.1
